Trip Itinerary ~ 13 Days
Day 1: Departure from USA fly to Naples or to Rome.
Day 2: Arrival. Visit the amazing Amalfi Coast with its breathtaking views over the Tyrrhenian Sea and considered one of the most magnificent coastlines in the Mediterranean Sea. Casual Dress throughout the day. Dinner and overnight in Pompeii or Sorrento.
Day 3: The Island of Capri is the greatest place for many people. Optional: Visit the extraordinary, beautiful Blue Grotto with its limestone bottom or tour the island with many places to shop, and swimming is available. Casual Dress throughout the day. Dinner and overnight in Pompeii or Sorrento.
Day 4: Check-out. Visit the incredible city of Pompeii on your way to Rome. Visit the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Wall where the body of St. Paul is buried. It is the 2nd largest basilica in Rome and the 5th in the world. . In the afternoon, we will be visiting St. Mary Major, the main Basilica dedicated to Mary in Rome. We will see the remains of Jesus' manger, the tomb of Bernini, the remains of St. Matthew the Evangelist, the tomb of St. Jerome, and the oldest icon in the world of the Virgin Mary painted by St. Luke: the famous Salus Populi Romani. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 5: Visit the Catacombs where 500,000 early Christians are buried. Tour of the Colosseum from the outside, a great building that has been standing since 80 A.D. Proceed to St. John Lateran, the first Basilica ever to be built in the Roman Empire and the Cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. Visit the Scala Santa, the stairs on which Jesus walked in the residence of Pontius Pilate on Good Friday. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 6: Tour the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel (the Pope's private chapel). Proceed to St. Peter's in the Vatican, the largest Basilica in the world that hosts the remains of the Vicar of Christ, St. Peter. There will be time for private devotion, lunch and shopping for religious items that will be blessed by the Pope next day during the Audience. Long pants, capris, or skirts below the knee will be required and shoulders should be covered. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 7: We will have an early start as our private bus takes us to the Vatican to experience the Audience with the Pope. After lunch we will visit the Spanish Steps known for the area where the Romans gathered to meet followed by a walk to the Trevi Fountain. We will continue on from there to tour the Pantheon from the outside, the oldest functional building in the world. We will conclude by visiting the great artistic Piazza Navona, the elegant "living room" of Rome. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
Day 8: En route to Florence stop in Assisi. See the tombs of St. Francis, St. Clare, and the body of Blessed Carlo Acutis; enjoy a peaceful walk on the streets of Assisi. Dinner and overnight in Florence.
Day 9: Tour of Florence in the region of Tuscany. Tour of the Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizzi, open air Market, Duomo (Cathedral), the Baptistery, Michelangelo's masterpiece, the David. Visit Basilica of San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapel (where the Medici family was buried). Casual dress throughout the day. Dinner and overnight in Florence.
Day 10: Drive to Cinque Terre, which is also known as "Five Lands" composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Dinner and overnight in Florence.
Day 11: Visit to San Gimignano which is known for its many towers, seven of its towers are around the Piazza del Duomo. In the afternoon, travel to Siena. We will visit this beautiful medieval city with its center gathered within ancient walls which hold beautiful monuments and museums. We will also visit the Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Comunale and Torre del Mangia, and visit the Duomo which is a majestic example of Romanesque-Gothic Style. Dinner and overnight in Florence.
Day 12: Tour of Venice: an amazing city built on water. Visit St. Mark's plaza. Optional: Gondola ride and shopping. Long pants if you intend to go inside St. Mark's. Casual dress if you intend to go on a Gondola ride or spend time shopping and visiting the beautiful streets and bridges of Venice. Dinner and overnight in Venice.
Day 13: Fly back home.
