Trip Itinerary
  • Day 1: Departure from USA. Dinner and Breakfast will be served in-flight.
  • Day 2: Upon arrival, enjoy a bus tour of Madrid. Check-in hotel and relax a bit before dinner. Dinner and overnight in Madrid.
  • Day 3: After breakfast, enjoy a tour of beginning at the Plaza Mayor which is the Main Square and takes its name at the start of the 16th century. Until the last century, the Plaza Mayor was used as a marketplace on weekdays and was the scene of popular events from bullfights to public announcement of sentences during the Inquisition, religious processions, public executions and dance and theater festivals. The most striking building in the Plaza Mayor is the Casa de la Panadería ~ Bakery house, with its colorful fresco-adorned façade. On the opposite side of the square is the Casa de la Carnicería ~ this former butcher shop now houses Municipal offices. In the center of the Plaza is the equestrian statue of Felipe III by the Italian Juan de Bolonia. Leaving through the eastern exit of the Plaza Mayor, in the Plaza de la Provincia, we find the Palacio de Santa Cruz ~ current site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After lunch, visit the Mercado de San Miguel, Plaza de la Villa, Casa de Cisneros, Palacio & Torre de Lujanes, Convent of the Carboneras and the Basilica de San Miguel. After lunch, visit the Prado museum. Dinner and overnight in Madrid.
  • Day 4: Early departure after breakfast, we will then head to Toledo, known as the City of the Three Religions or Cultures because for many centuries, the Christians, the Moors, and the Jews lived together in relative equality and peace. We will visit the Cathedral, the church of Santo Torne, the Transito Synagogue, Santa Maria La Blanca Synagogue, the superb church of San Juan de los Reyes, Puerta de Bisagras, Puerta del Cambron, Puerta del Sol, etc. Dinner and overnight in Madrid.
  • Day 5: After breakfast, take the train to Bilbao. Visit the Frank Gehry’s iconic Guggenheim Museum. Dinner and overnight in Bilbao.
  • Day 6: After breakfast, visit the Museo de de Bellas Artes which showcases works by the Spanish masters. Visit the Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Begona. It is Bilbao’s most cherished religious sanctuary dedicated to the patron saint of Vizcaya. After lunch, visit San Sebastian’s aquarium ~ whale skeleton, underwater tunnel with beautiful marine life. Located on the side of a steep cliff face, San Sebastian's Funicular Railway consists of two carriages which transport passenger both up and down at the same time. Travelling the short distance of around 300 metres / 985 feet, the Funicular de Igeldo connects Ondarreta Beach at the bottom, with the popular Monte Igeldo Amusement Park at the top, offering spectacular coastal views of La Concha Bay along the way. Dinner and overnight in Bilbao.
  • Day 7: After breakfast, visit the Palacio de Aiete, which was built in 1878 with influence from the French castles of the era. Aside from its architectural finesse of slate roofs and masonry walls, it is also surrounded by ponds and gardens. With its elevated location the palace is also an ideal place for sightseeing. After lunch, off to Barrio de la Marina which is an old fishing district where an old village named Hondarribia used to be. What remains now of the old village are the two main streets which now contain bars and restaurants. Dinner and overnight in Bilbao.
  • Day 8: Early departure for Barcelona by train. Upon arrival, free afternoon in Barcelona. Dinner and overnight in Barcelona.
  • Day 9: After breakfast, we will tour Barcelona which will include panoramic views of the Harbor area, Montjuic, Plaza de Espana, Plaza de Catalunya. Afterwards, continue on a guided tour through the Gothic Quarter to visit Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring the colorful markets of Las Ramblas and enjoy the Park Guell designed by Gaudi and its amazing architecture. Dinner and overnight in Barcelona.
  • Day 10: After breakfast, we begin the day by making our way to Montserrat, the home of the Benedictine Monastery. We will visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat. Enjoy a gastronomical and oenological day. Wine tasting in Oller del Mas, a X Century (964 A.D) castle surrounded by gorgeous fields with jaw dropping views. A very intense experience in nature and the feeling of the past. Return for dinner and overnight in Barcelona.
  • Day 11: Early departure after breakfast by train for a scenic drive along the Balearic Sea towards Valencia ~ a city rich in traditions and festivities and the home of the paella. Valencia is known as the city of flowers boasting with parks such as the Turia garden, Botanic Garden, the Royal Garden, and the Ayora Garden amongst others. Visit some of the most famous monuments ~ Miguelete and the Cathedral. Dinner and overnight in Valencia.
  • Day 12: Early departure after breakfast for Granada. We will spend some time at the Alhambra ~ a magnificent palace and fortress complex. Dinner and overnight in Granada.
  • Day 13: After breakfast, take the 4X4 tour of the Nerja Caves, Frigiliana and visit the ‘lost village’ of Acebuchal ~ a gleaming white, hidden little gem of a village. Dinner and overnight in Granada.
  • Day 14: After breakfast, visit the coastal city of Marbella along the Costa del Sol known as the ‘playground of the rich and famous’. In the afternoon, visit the coastal city of Malaga and take a 3 hour cruise along the Axarquia coastline. Dinner along the Costa del Sol. Overnight in Granada.
  • Day 15: After breakfast, visit the largest park in Seville and one of the most beautiful in Europe ~ Maria Luisa Park. Visit the majestic Cathedral of Seville that claims to be the third largest building in the world of its kind. After lunch, visit Alcazar ~ a beautiful medieval Islamic palace showcasing a unique fusion of Spanish Christian and Moorish architecture. Dinner and overnight in Seville.
  • Day 16: After breakfast, we will head to Cordoba to visit the Capilla Mudejar de San Bartolome which was once the parish church of San Bartolome and a splendid example of Mudejar architecture. After lunch, the afternoon is yours to explore. Dinner and overnight in Seville
  • Day 17: After breakfast, we head to Huelva where the Biosphere Reserve is located. It represents one of the most important protected areas in Spain and the core area is made up of the Donana National Park. Spend the day here. Dinner and overnight in Seville.
  • Day 18: After breakfast, depart to the Seville airport for return flights to the USA.
  • Please note: We do our best to ensure that all sites listed in this itinerary will be seen. However, due to scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances beyond our control, sites may be visited on a different day than listed. If this happens it will also necessitate a change in the restaurant for dinner. However, we will never sacrifice the quality of the meal, all restaurants will meet Proximo Travel's very high standards. Since we have several different trip configurations touring at the same time, it is likely that groups on different tours will be combined when their itineraries overlap in certain areas.
