Trip Itinerary
  • Day 1: Departure from USA to Palermo.
  • Day 2: Arrival. After breakfast, begin the day with a drive to the seaport of Marsala. Visit the Roman ruins in the Cape Boeo area containing archeological sites such as a villa with baths and colorful mosaics. The Church of San Giovanni was built over a cave converted into a home in Roman times where Roman mosaic floors can still be seen. Free afternoon to include a wine tasting of the famous Marsala wine. Dinner and overnight in Palermo, Sicily.
  • Day 3: After breakfast, begin the day by going to the junction of Palermo, or the centre point of the four areas of the old town centre known as Quattro Canti. The sculptures on each of the four corners depict a variety of themes, including the four seasons, four Spanish kings, and four patron saints of the old town area. Going southeast down the Via Maqueda, you will come across Piazza Pretoria which is home not only to a splendid fountain but several other impressive buildings including the City Hall. The fountain has been dubbed the 'Fountain of Shame' with its 16 nude statues of nymphs, humans, mermaids, and satyrs. Behind City Hall there is the Piazza Bellini where the Church of Santa Maria della Ammiraglio (commonly known as La Martorana) and the Church of San Cataldo (characterized by 3 red domes) are located. Dinner and overnight in Palermo, Sicily.
  • Day 4: Drive to the quaint town of San Piero Patti in the morning. Visit the Church of Santa Maria. Stay for lunch and then take the short drive to Palermo. Free afternoon in Palermo. Dinner and overnight in Catania.
  • Day 5: Drive to Syracuse. Visit the Duomo (Cathedral). The building contains influences from various cultures within its wall: Greek, Byzantine, Arabic, and the Norman Church of Santa Lucia. The church stands on the sight where, so the legend goes, Syracuse's patron saint was martyred. Church of San Giovanni: The church was built in the 6th century and the main facade was completely rebuilt in Baroque Style after the 1693 earthquake. The catacombs are also located there. Tour of the archeological area and the famous Greek Theater. Overnight in Catania, Sicily.
  • Day 6: Visit the most beautiful city of Sicily: the incredible city of Toarmina. Overnight in Catania, Sicily.
  • Day 7: Tour of Catania: Piazza Duomo ~ Elephant Fountain, The Cathedral with the Chapel of Santa Agata containing the saint's treasures. Walk the famous Via Crociferi where you can see some wonderful examples of 18th century Baroque buildings: Jesuits Church, Church of San Giuliani and the Benedictine Monastery. Walk on the Via Etnea, an elegant street lined with Baroque-style buildings and shops that crosses the city from Piazza Duomo to Piazza Stesicoro where you can see the Vincenzo Bellini Monument, the imposing Roman Amphitheater, and the Church of Santa Agata alla Fornace. Take the ferry to Messina. Overnight in Reggio Calabria.
  • Day 8: Tour of Reggio Calabria. Visit the Abbazia di Serra San Bruno and the Byzantine Church of Stilo dating back to the 9th century. In the afternoon, see the National Archeological Museum of Reggio Calabria to admire the bronze work of Riace. Dinner and overnight in Reggio Calabria.
