Trip Itinerary
  • Day 1: Departure from USA.
  • Day 2: Arrival in Palermo, Sicily. Visit the Palazzo Reale, situated on the oldest and highest point in Sicily. Visit il Duomo in Palermo. Visit the Monreale Cathedral known for its golden mosaics. Dinner and overnight in Trapani.
  • Day 3: After breakfast, visit the beautifully preserved medieval town of Erice where there are over 60 churches. Visit Trapani where the famous Basilica/Sanctuary of Santa Maria Santissima Annunziata is located, home of the Madonna of Trapani. Stop in Marsala for a vineyard tour and wine tasting. Dinner and overnight in Trapani.
  • Day 4: After breakfast, visit the small town of Calatafimi where the Temeple of Segesta is located and one of the best preserved classical theatres is located. Visit the Church of the Madonna of Giubino. Visit Salemi to view St. Joseph Tables on St. Joseph's day. Dinner and overnight in Trapani.
  • Day 5: Early morning departure for Piazza Amerina where the famous Villa Romana delle Casale is located. Depart for Cefalu, a beautiful coastal town in the province of Palermo. Visit Tyndaris, which began as a settlement back in the Bronze Age. It is set high on the hill above the city with spectacular views. It is famous for its black Madonna statue. Walk through the narrow and medieval streets that overlook a rocky coast in Cefalu. Dinner and overnight in Taormina.
  • Day 6: Drive to Syracuse. Visit the archaeological area and the famous Greek theater. Visit to the Duomo (Cathedral). The building contains influences from various cultures within its wall: Greek, Byzantine, Arabic, and the Norman Church of Santa Lucia. The church stands on the site where, so the legend goes, Syracuse's patron saint was martyred. Visit the Shrine of La Madonna delle Lacrime (Madonna of Tears). Dinner and overnight in Taormina.
  • Day 7: Visit the famous Mount Etna in the morning. After lunch, tour the twisting medieval streets of this legendary resort town of Taormina. Walk uphill behind the Church of St. Joseph for some beautiful panoramic views. Tour a local vineyard. Dinner and overnight in Taormina.
  • Day 8: Fly to Naples and visit the Church of St. Andrew while touring the Amalfi Coast by bus. Dinner and overnight in Sorrento.
  • Day 9: The Island of Capri is the greatest place for many people. Optional: visit the extraordinary beautiful Blue Grotto with its shining bottom, tour the Island, shopping. Dinner around the hotel area at 6:45 pm. Red and white wine included. Casual Dress throughout the day. Dinner and overnight in Sorrento.
  • Day 10: After breakfast, visit the Medieval Cathedral of il Duomo di San Gennaro or il Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta. The Capella di San Gennaro is home to a reliquary bust containing the head of San Gennaro. In addition, the crypt altar also contains two vials of San Gennaro’s blood which liquefies a few times each year. It is called the blood miracle. After lunch, tour the ruins of Pompeii followed by a visit to Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Dinner and overnight in Rome.
  • Day 11: Private bus around 7:30 am to the Vatican to experience the 10:00 am. Audience with the Pope. We will see the Pope very closely; sometimes we even shake his hand. We will visit the Spanish Steps. This is the place where Romans hung out. Walk to Trevi Fountain for lunch and shopping. Walk to Pantheon, the oldest functional building in the world and then to the great artistic place of Piazza Navona around 4:30 pm. Dinner at Piazza Navona. Red and white wine included. Casual Dress throughout the day. Overnight in Rome.
  • Day 12: Start the day by visiting the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel (the Pope's private Chapel) and St. Peter's in the Vatican, the largest Basilica in the world. Long pants, capris, or skirts below the knee, shoulders covered. In the afternoon our private bus will take us to the town where the Pope's Summer Residence is located: the charming Castel Gandolfo with its spectacular Lake Albano. Awesome place just like those towns you see on TV. Wine tasting and farewell dinner at 6:00 pm at a local upscale restaurant: eat where the Italians eat. Several courses of delicious Italian food. Red and white wine included. Overnight in Rome.
  • Day 13: Private bus to Airport and departure from Rome back to USA.
  • Please note: We do our best to ensure that all sites listed in this itinerary will be seen. However, due to scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances beyond our control, sites may be visited on a different day than listed. If this happens it will also necessitate a change in the restaurant for dinner. However, we will never sacrifice the quality of the meal, all restaurants will meet Proximo Travel's very high standards. Since we have several different trip configurations touring at the same time, it is likely that groups on different tours will be combined when their itineraries overlap in certain areas.
