Trip Itinerary ~ 11 Days
Day 1: Departure from USA.
Day 2: On the way to Pompeii, tour Naples by bus and visit the famous cathedral of St. Gennaro, the patron Saint of Naples. Every year on September 19, his blood becomes liquid as thousands of people gather to experience this miracle of faith. Dinner and overnight in Pompeii.
Day 3: Tour the archeological site of Pompeii, the city that was buried by the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. One of the most important shrines in Italy is the "Santuario di Pompeii (“La Madonna Del Rosario”). After the tragedy of 79 A.D. Italians always pray Our Lady of Pompeii for protection. Inside the shrine see the painting of the Virgin Mary and Child Jesus presenting the Rosary to Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena, a thorn from the Crown of Thorns of Jesus, and a small piece of the Holy Cross. Proceed to the great town of Sorrento and enjoy a free afternoon then a great dinner in this gorgeous beautiful town overlooking the Costiera Sorrentina. Overnight in Pompeii.
Day 4: Tour of the Amalfi coast. Stary with lunch in Positano and then proceed to pary in the Cathedral of St Andrew in Amalfi hosting the remains of St. Andrew the Apostle. Finish the day by having a wine tasting in Ravello with its cathedral dedicated to Pantaleone and the Villa Rufolo, a venue for many festivals throughout the year. Dinner and overnight in Pompeii.
Day 5: The Island of Capri is the greatest place for many people. Optional: visit the extraordinary beautiful Blue Grotto with its shining bottom, tour the Island, swim or go shopping. Casual Dress throughout the day. Dinner and overnight in Pompeii.
Day 6: fly from Naples to Palermo. Tour of the city by bus and visit the cathedral of Palermo, the Mercato Ballarò, and the Massimo and Politeama theaters from the outside. Dinner and overnight in Palermo.
Day 7: Tour of Cefalù, one of the most beautiful city of Italy with its stunning World Heritage Norman cathedral, gorgeous beach and quaint streets. It is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Dinner and overnight in Palermo.
Day 8: Travel to Catania. Some sights to enjoy are the Piazza Duomo ~ Elephant Fountain, The Cathedral with the Chapel of Sant'Agata containing the saint's treasures. Choose to walk the famous Via Crociferi where you can see some wonderful examples of 18th century Baroque buildings: Jesuits' Church, Church of San Giuliani and the Benedictine Monastery, and walk on the Via Etnea, an elegant street lined with Baroque-style buildings and shops that crosses the city from Piazza Duomo to Piazza Stesicoro where you can see the Vincenzo Bellini Monument, the imposing Roman Amphitheater, and the Church of Sant'Agata alla Fornace. Dinner and overnight in Catania, Sicily.
Day 9: Visit the incredible city of Taormina: it is considered by many the most beautiful city of Italy. Proceed to see the famous volcano of Mount Etna. Dinner and overnight in Catania.
Day 10: Drive to Syracuse. We will visit the archaeological area and the famous Greek theater. We will visit the Duomo (Cathedral), the building contains influences from various cultures within its walls: Greek, Byzantine, Arabic, and the Norman Church of Santa Lucia. The church stands on the site where, so the legend goes, Syracuse's patron saint was martyred. Dinner and overnight in Catania.
Day 11: Fly back home.
